Children’s Ministry at CotC

Mission

Every child who enters CotC should know that…

  • God knows them

  • God loves them

  • God is always with them

We accomplish this through our Sunday morning program, resource sharing, and parent groups.

What to Expect

Check in
Before the service, please make your way to the check-in table at the back of the sanctuary (by the welcome table) to check your child in to nursery or Sunday School and print their name tags and your pick up code. Children need to wear their name tags for the duration of their time in Sunday School.

Nursery Care
Nursery care is available for children crawling to age 3. Our nursery is located on the second floor. Parents can drop children off before the service (as early as 10:15) and should pick them up at the passing of the peace. Hired nursery workers staff our nursery. All nursery staff have been screened and trained. Only parents diaper children and help with the bathroom. You can find more information about child safety in our handbook HERE.

Sunday School
Our time together begins after the prayer for children. Children enter Powery Hall and are welcomed by their teachers. Classes meet upstairs and include story time, prayer, memory verses, and response time. During the passing of the peace, parents should return to Powery Hall to pick up their children with the code printed for them during check-in.
We have 2 classes:

  • PreK-K

  • 1st-5th

Children matriculate in the fall and follow a September 1st age cut off. Children who are 3 before September 1st join Sunday School in the fall.

  • Church, and Sunday School in particular, should be a fun, safe place children look forward to going. Our Sunday School volunteers have undergone a thorough screening process including an application, background checks, reference checks, sexual abuse awareness training, and a basic attendance requirement (6 months). There will always be two adults with any class or child at any time. Our floating volunteer (hall monitor) rotates throughout the classrooms and Sunday School space to ensure our safety standards are being met. They are also responsible for contacting the director and/or parents if a need arises. Additionally, all children and families participate in our secure check-in/check-out name tag system.   • All classes engage with God’s Big Story, a Bible-based curriculum out of the Anglican Network in Canada. Each lesson includes a memory verse, a story told with visuals, wondering questions for discussion, prayer, and some form of response (blocks, coloring, a craft, game, etc).

  • Every child is welcome to join our Sunday School classes! If you have specific concerns or if your child has specific needs, please reach out to our Director of Children’s Ministry, Sara Williams at sara@cotcboston.org.
